Practice 2.3 Equality and Diversity
Examples of notable practice:
National Mental Health and Ethnicity Census, 2005
The Mental Health Act Commission led the National Mental Health and Ethnicity Census, 2005 in collaboration with the Healthcare Commission, National Institute for Mental Health England (NIMHE) and the Department of Health.
The Race Equality Impact Assessment
The Healthcare Commission's Race Equality Impact Assessment (REIA) system is designed to enable decision-makers to assess the potential or actual impact on race of all future policies, projects or functions. By conducting an REIA early on in the development of future policies and functions, we can be mindful of what more can be done to promote equal opportunities, encourage good relations among people of different racial groups and take action to mitigate risks from adverse impact, if any, on a particular racial group(s). It helps public bodies meet our statutory duty under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 while trying to embrace race equality as a second nature in whatever we do.
