Practice 10.4 Monitoring implementation

Examples of notable practice:

Monitoring implementation – Mental Health Act Commission

The Mental Health Act Commission’s Senior Executive Team receive a progress update and review of implementation at each of their monthly meetings and significant developments are reported to the Mental Health Act Commission Board. A detailed annual progress review was conducted in July 2005 using the Healthcare Commission template and progress was discussed by the Board at its July meeting. There are plans to conduct detailed annual reviews from now on.

Monitoring implementation - Audit Commission

The Audit Commission’s Health Management Team reviews Concordat implementation workstreams on a monthly basis and organisational performance against the 10 objectives is reviewed every 6 months.

Developing systems

The Healthcare Commission is working to incorporate monitoring the implementation of the Concordat into its performance management systems.  Work to develop performance indicators for the Operations Directorate commenced in July 2005 and a project to evaluate regional progress with implementing the Concordat started will be completed by April 2006. Outputs from the project will be used to identify aspects of Concordat implementation that require more work.

Informal progress updates on Concordat implementation are made to the seconded Concordat team and operations improvement & independent healthcare team on a regular basis and discussions are underway to determine how best to report to the Operations Senior Management Team.
The organisation’s approach to feeding back the results of the 2005 annual progress review will be used to develop an approach for monitoring implementation that involves the entire organisation.
