Research programmes

The Health and Safety Executive has a mature research programme in place to inform policy and operational activities. HSE uses it scientists, engineers and the research it funds to understand problems and develop effective practical solutions for a wide range of workplaces. As a result, HSE is provided with the evidence on the causes of ill-health and incidents in the workplace, which influences where our priorities lie, and contributes to developing solutions to control a range of workplace risks.

Where appropriate, HSE will engage with other stakeholders to collaborate on research projects to promote greater responsibility and accountability to managing particular risks. Examples of research projects either undertaken or underway can be found at:
