Practice 5.1 Consistent standards for those providing care
Examples of notable practice:
Transparent standards and assessment criteria
Many Concordat signatories already inspect/audit against transparent standards and assessment criteria. For example:
- the Commission for Social Care Inspection inspects against the Government’s National Minimum Standards (NMS). These are specific to each type of care setting and can all be accessed here:

Fair approach
All NHS Litigation Authority assessments are based on published standards designed to reflect the risk profile of different types of trust and conducted by specially trained independent assessors with relevant backgrounds and experience.
Transparent standards and assessment criteria
Many concordat signatories already inspect/audit against transparent standards and assessment criteria. For example:
The Healthcare Commission’s assessment framework, Standards for Better Health, applies to all providers and commissioners of NHS services.
